Understanding the Difference Between EGW's Standard and Prodigy Ignition Kits

At Evolution Gun Works (EGW), we are committed to providing top-quality products that meet the needs of our customers. One of our most popular offerings is our ignition kits, available in two versions: the standard ignition kit and the Prodigy ignition kit. While these kits share many similarities, there are a few key differences that set them apart.

What is an Ignition Kit?

Our ignition kits include essential components designed to enhance the performance and reliability of your firearm's ignition system. These components typically include a hammer, sear, disconnector, hammer spring, and a sear spring that needs to be tuned. You can check out more details about our ignition kits here.

The Standard Ignition Kit

Our standard ignition kit is crafted with precision and attention to detail. It includes all the necessary components to ensure a smooth and reliable firing process. The hammer in the standard kit is available in various styles and materials to suit different preferences. Additionally, the hammer spring in the standard kit is a 19 lb hammer spring, providing consistent and reliable performance unless the SKU ends in -17, in which case it comes with a 17 lb hammer spring. If you decide to use the kit with the 17 lb hammer spring, we recommend swapping out your firing pin for one of our oversized firing pins here

The Prodigy Ignition Kit

The Prodigy ignition kit includes all the same high-quality components as the standard kit, but with one crucial difference: the sear. When we first released the Prodigy, we noticed that about 10% of customers experienced issues with hammer follow during installation. To address this, we made a slight modification to the sear, shortening it by .005 inches. This adjustment effectively resolved the issue, ensuring that our customers can install the Prodigy ignition kit with confidence and without any problems.

Why Choose the Prodigy Ignition Kit?

The Prodigy ignition kit is designed to provide the same exceptional performance as our standard kit, with the added benefit of the modified sear. By shortening the sear, we have eliminated the hammer follow issue, giving our customers peace of mind and a smoother installation process. Plus, the Prodigy kit also includes the sear spring that needs tuning, just like the standard kit.

At EGW, we continuously strive to improve our products based on customer feedback and our commitment to quality. The Prodigy ignition kit is a testament to this dedication, offering a solution to a common issue while maintaining the high standards of our standard ignition kit. Whether you choose the standard or Prodigy ignition kit, you can trust that you are getting a product that will enhance the performance of your firearm.

Thank you for choosing EGW. If you have any questions about our ignition kits or need assistance with installation, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
