EGW 1911 Ignition Kit with Customizable Hammer
CRITICAL PRODIGY FITMENT NOTE (3.5" MODELS)
? WARNING: The EGW Hammer included in this kit is not compatible with the factory grip safety on the 3.5" Springfield Prodigy model. This combination causes interference and will prevent the slide from cycling.
Solutions:
- Continue using the original factory hammer.
- Install both the EGW Hammer and the compatible EGW Grip Safety designed specifically for the 3.5" Prodigy.

Springfield Prodigy Fitment Notes (All Models)
? CRITICAL: If you are installing this kit into a Springfield Prodigy, YOU MUST USE THE SHORTENED SEAR. Other length sears may lead to hammer follow issues.
- Hammers: All EGW 1911 hammers fit in the Prodigy (aesthetics differ). (See warning above for 3.5" Prodigy interference).
- Sear: EGW Short Sear REQUIRED (other lengths lead to hammer follow issues).
- Disconnector: Ball head disconnector (may require fitting around the "ball portion" to fit Prodigy frames).
- Mainspring: 17# and 19# both work. We recommend the 19# if you are running the factory Titanium firing pin.
- Sear Spring: The Colt and Light Leaf sear spring both fit/work in the Prodigy platform.
- Trigger (Optional): The optional Red Dirt triggers are perfectly compatible with the Prodigy platform.
Understanding Your Customizable Options
One of the biggest benefits of this kit is right in the name: customizable. This kit gives you the ability to choose the components that best match your pistol, your preferences, and your intended use.
1. Hammers (Material & Appearance)
When it comes to our hammer options, there is no major performance difference between them in normal use. Choosing your hammer comes down to matching the material and appearance of your build.
- Carbon Steel: A traditional choice, perfect for blued or coated parts.
- Stainless Steel: Offers standard stainless look and corrosion resistance, matching other stainless components.
2. Hard Sear & Disconnector (Direct Selection)
The **Hard Sear** selection is extremely straightforward. If you have a Springfield Prodigy, choose the hard sear that says Prodigy. If you do not have a Prodigy, choose the standard hard sear.
For the **Disconnector**, we only offer one type in this kit. It keeps the selection process simple: simply select the disconnector option available.
3. Mainsprings (Trigger Pull Weight)
This is one of the more important choices in the kit, helping you achieve a specific trigger pull weight.
- 17 lb Mainspring: Helps achieve the lightest possible trigger pull. **WARNING:** Lighter springs carry a risk of light primer strikes. If chosen, we strongly recommend making sure your pistol is using a steel firing pin, not a titanium firing pin.
- 19 lb Mainspring: A solid middle-ground option. It provides a lighter trigger pull than factory but maintains a more conservative ignition setup, striking a practical balance for many shooters.
- 23 lb Officers Mainspring: This spring is for **Officers model 1911s only.** If you are not working on an Officers model, this is not the correct option.
- 19 lb for Compact Prodigy Grips: Specifically made for **compact grip Prodigy pistols.**
4. Triggers (Red Dirt)
To complete your ignition system upgrade, we now offer premium Red Dirt triggers as an option in this kit.
- Fitment Warning: These specific Red Dirt triggers are designed exclusively for the Springfield Prodigy and the Alfa Foxtrot Romulus. They will not fit standard 1911s or other 2011 platforms.
5. Sear Springs, Hammer Struts & Pins
These choices are based on subtle function differences, mass reduction goals, and finish preferences.
- Sear Springs: We offer a lightened leaf sear spring (lighter by a small fraction) and a Colt 1911 sear spring (nicer, clearer finish). The differences are subtle and come down to fine-tuning preference.
- Hammer Struts (Stainless vs. Titanium): Choose Stainless Steel for a traditional, proven choice. Choose Titanium if you are a shooter trying to reduce mass in the ignition system and fine-tune the overall feel.
- Hammer Strut Pins (Blued vs. Stainless): This is mostly about aesthetics and matching the look of the rest of your parts.
