Rail Blanks & Drops

The Foundation for Your Custom Scope Base

For the professional gunsmith and custom rifle builder, our Picatinny rail extrusions are the perfect starting point for creating a truly custom scope base. Save significant time, tool wear, and machine work by starting with a pre-profiled, MIL-STD-1913 spec blank. Machined from high-quality, American-sourced 6061 T6 aluminum, our extrusions provide the ideal foundation for any custom mounting project.

The Gunsmith's Advantage: Options for Any Project

We offer a comprehensive selection of blanks to give professional gunsmiths maximum flexibility for any custom scope mount build.

  • Slotted or Solid Blanks: Choose the option that best fits your project. Our Slotted blanks come with MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny cross-slots already machined, saving you a significant amount of machine time. Our Solid (Unslotted) blanks give you a clean slate, allowing for custom slot placement or a completely smooth, uninterrupted rail surface.
  • Premium Material Selection: We offer blanks in three distinct, high-quality materials to match your project's requirements:
    • 6061 T6 Aluminum: An easily machinable, cost-effective choice for standard-duty custom scope bases.
    • 7075 T6 Aluminum: A high-strength, aerospace-grade alloy for projects requiring greater rigidity without the weight of steel.
    • 4140 Carbon Steel: The ultimate choice for maximum durability, ideal for bases intended for heavy-recoiling magnum rifles or extreme hard-use applications.
  • Sold by the Inch: Order the exact length you need for your project, from a small section for a single base to long lengths for multiple production runs. This flexibility minimizes waste and saves you money.

Gunsmith Blank & Extrusion FAQ

What machining is still required to finish these blanks?

Our blanks provide the main top profile. A gunsmith will still need to perform several operations to create a finished base, including: cutting the blank to length, radiusing the underside to match the receiver contour, and drilling the mounting screw holes. If you choose an unslotted blank, you will also need to mill the Picatinny cross-slots.

How do I choose the right material?

Choose 6061 Aluminum for general-purpose applications and ease of machining. Choose 7075 Aluminum for a lightweight yet stronger and more rigid base suitable for long-range precision rifles. Choose 4140 Steel when maximum durability and recoil absorption are the top priorities, such as for large magnum calibers or dangerous game rifles.

What are "drops"?

"Drops" are the leftover raw material pieces from our main production runs. They are made from the same high-quality 6061, 7075, or 4140 steel stock as our finished parts. While they may vary in length and profile, they offer an economical option for gunsmiths who need smaller pieces of quality material for one-off projects or for practicing machine work.
