Mounting Hardware: #6-48 Screws (Included).

Installation & Overview

(Watch our guide on how to properly torque and install your EGW rail).

This is the "Missing Link" of Savage mounts. For a brief period (mostly pre-2003), Savage manufactured a "Medium Action" receiver, often referred to as the J-Series. These actions are longer than a standard short action but shorter than a long action. This EGW Picatinny Rail is precision-machined to fit that unique 4.09" hole spacing, solving the headache of finding a mount for these transition-era rifles.

Machined from domestic 6061 T6 aircraft aluminum, this rail provides a rigid, one-piece mounting platform that bridges the receiver. The center channel reduces weight while the cross slots allow for flexible ring positioning. It is designed to fit the flat rear profile characteristic of older Savage receivers.

Savage Flat Back FAQ

What is a "Medium" or "J-Series" Action?

It is an intermediate length action that Savage produced before standardizing on Short and Long actions. Even if your rifle is chambered in a short caliber like .243, it might be built on this longer receiver. Measurement is the only way to know. Ideally, the center screw spacing will be 4.09".

How do I know if I have a "Flat Back"?

Look at the rear of your receiver (where the bolt handle is). If the top surface is flat like a table, you have a Flat Back (Pre-2003). If it is round like a pipe, you have a Round Back (Post-2003/AccuTrigger).

Will this fit the Savage Axis?

No. The Savage Axis (and Edge) uses a completely different hole spacing. Please see our specific Savage Axis rails.
