What's the best way to mount a scope to a Howa 1500 Long Action?

The Howa 1500 long actions are legendary for precision perfection. From their cold hammer forged, lightweight, durable and remarkably accurate barrels with consistent bores and incredibly smooth surface. Their one-piece receiver with integral recoil lugs. To the forged steel bolt with two locking lugs, reliable M16-style ejector and extractor and tool-less take down design. Howa’s barreled actions are the best kept secret in shooting sports.

If you are looking to mount a scope on your Howa 1500, our 20 MOA picatinny scope mount is a great option and exactly what you need for your Howa 1500 bolt action rifle.

This Howa 1500 picatinny rail scope mount allows you to easily mount your scope using picatinny or weaver rings. Our Howa 1500 rail mounts are proudly made in the U.S.A. and include all of the necessary mounting hardware.

This mount fits:

  • Howa 1500 Long Action
  • Weatherby Vanguard Long Action
  • Smith & Wesson 1500 Long Action

We recommend measuring the hole spacing in your receiver to confirm it matches with the dimensions we have published.

Why is the EGW scope mount the best for my Howa 1500?

Picatinny cross slots run the full length of the rail, which gives the shooter flexibility when mounting scope rings and other accessories. The channel in the center reduces the overall mass of the mount. Also, in many cases, it will not obstruct usage of factory iron sights. Our one-piece scope mounts are the obvious choice for hunters and tactical shooters alike.

We machine these in our shop using one of our machining centers. After machining, the mounts are tumbled, sand blasted, and Type II anodized for long lasting durability.

Should I use loctite when installing my picatinny scope mount?

We always recommend a drip of blue loctite or thread locker when installing your scope mounts (loctite is available through our website and is sold separately).

Do I need to torque my hardware when installing my picatinny scope mount?

We always recommend torquing the mounting hardware to 20 in/lbs unless otherwise specified by the manufacturer of the firearm.

Watch our scope mount installation video here.

If you have any other questions, please send our customer service an email or give us a call, we are here to help you find the correct mounting solution for your application.

We recommend:

0 MOA - if shooting 0-500 yards
20 MOA - if shooting 500-1000 yards

When zeroing your rifle with a 20 MOA mount, we recommend zeroing at 200 yards.

Installation: We recommend 20 inch lbs of torque and a drip of blue loctite (loctite is available through our website and is sold separately).

The entire mount and accessories (from the mounting screws and wrench down to the packaging) are made in the USA.
