Feed Ramp Insert FAQ
Why would a 1911 frame need this part?
There are two primary reasons. For aluminum frames, the softer alloy material can be gouged by modern hollow-point ammunition, causing malfunctions. This steel insert prevents that damage. For both steel and aluminum frames, this insert is used to repair a feed ramp that is already damaged, pitted, or was machined with an incorrect angle from the factory, restoring the frame and ensuring reliable feeding.
Can I install this myself?
No. This is one of the most advanced 1911 modifications. It requires a milling machine to cut a precise pocket in the frame for the insert to be installed. This is absolutely not a home-gunsmithing part and must be performed by a professional with the correct tools and experience.
