Installation & Overview

(Watch our guide on how to properly torque and install your EGW rail.)

If you're building a long-range capable Remington 700 short action (or a Remington 700 footprint rifle like many Bergara B14 models), the scope base is the foundation of your optic system. This EGW 20 MOA one-piece Picatinny rail is designed to keep your optic secure, maintain zero under recoil, and preserve scope elevation adjustment for extended distance shooting.

Machined from domestic 6061 T6 aluminum, this rail is lightweight (2 oz) yet durable. The matte black anodized finish provides long-term corrosion resistance, while the full-length Picatinny cross slots allow flexible optic placement to dial in correct eye relief.

One-Piece Scope Bases Are the Best Choice

A one-piece scope base offers better performance than two-piece designs in nearly every way. By spanning the entire receiver, it reduces alignment variables and provides a stronger, more stable foundation for your optic.

  • ✔ More Stability – A single piece of aluminum eliminates potential misalignment.
  • ✔ Increased Durability – Fewer parts mean fewer failure points under recoil.
  • ✔ Better Optic Positioning – More cross slots allow precise eye relief adjustments.
  • ✔ Built for Recoil – Designed to handle common short-action calibers like .223 and .308.

Picatinny vs Weaver – Why Picatinny Wins

Picatinny rails are the modern standard for mounting optics because they offer standardized slot geometry and repeatable placement. They also provide excellent compatibility with modern rings and accessories.

  • ✔ More Mounting Flexibility – Standardized spacing makes positioning easier.
  • ✔ Better Compatibility – Works with Picatinny and Weaver rings.
  • ✔ Strong, Consistent Recoil Engagement – Helps maintain stability and zero retention.
  • ✔ Future-Proof – Best choice for modern optics and mounting systems.

#6 and #8 Screw Compatibility – No Drilling Required

Some Remington 700 models (including certain Police and LTR variants) use larger #8-40 screws. This EGW rail is factory pre-drilled to accept both #6-48 and #8-40 screw patterns, and both screw sets are included.

20 MOA – Built for Long-Range Shooting

A 20 MOA rail adds forward cant to preserve your scope’s internal elevation travel, helping you keep a solid zero while extending usable adjustment for distance.

  • 0 MOA: Ideal for short- to mid-range shooting (0–500 yards).
  • 20 MOA: Best for long-range shooting (500–1000 yards).

Proper Installation & Torque Settings

  • Torque Specs: 20 in/lbs
  • Thread Locker: A small amount of blue Loctite is recommended to prevent loosening under recoil
  • Beveled Design: Ambidextrous bevels on both sides for left- and right-handed shooters

Fitment Warning – Does NOT Fit Howa 1500 or Weatherby Vanguard

This rail will NOT fit the Howa 1500 or Weatherby Vanguard. While the bolt pattern may appear similar, differences in the ejection port cut, length, and receiver geometry make this mount incompatible. Always measure hole spacing before purchasing.
