The EGW Solution for Your Custom 1911

The secret to a competition-winning trigger is unparalleled precision and style. Here’s why our lightened hammer is the superior choice:

  • Unique 2-Tone Finish: We take our precision-machined hammer, apply a deep blue finish, and then carefully grind the side flats to expose the raw steel, creating a stunning and unique custom look.
  • Unmatched Machining Accuracy: We use a single machine hold to drill and ream the holes, mill the profile, and cut all reliefs. This process ensures all operations are held within .0005", resulting in a truly square and precise hammer for a flawless trigger job.
  • Faster Lock Time: The distinctive slot and skeletonized design reduce the hammer's weight to just 10.7 grams (165 grains). This lower mass allows the hammer to fall faster, reducing lock time—a measurable advantage in precision shooting.
  • Functional "Tank Tread" Serrations: The unique cocking serrations offer a positive, non-slip surface for manual cocking without creating the stress risers found in traditional checkering.

1911 Hammer FAQ

What is the benefit of a "lightened" hammer?

A lightened, or skeletonized, hammer has less mass than a traditional spur hammer. This lower mass allows it to accelerate and fall faster once it is released by the sear. This reduction in "lock time" means there is less time for the shooter's aim to be disturbed between the trigger breaking and the gun firing, which is a significant advantage for precision shooting.

Why is gunsmith fitting absolutely required?

The hammer and sear relationship is the heart of the 1911's safety and function. This is not a drop-in part. It MUST be installed and fitted by a qualified 1911 gunsmith who can properly stone the hammer hooks, mate them to the sear, and ensure all safeties (thumb safety, grip safety) are working correctly with the new part.
