Product Overview
The EGW Hunter Series Howa 1500 / Weatherby Vanguard Short Action Picatinny Rail combines the strength of our 7075 aluminum Heavy Duty mounts with a sleeker profile developed specifically for hunting rifles.
Machined from solid 7075-T6 aluminum, the Hunter Series provides a strong, lightweight one-piece mounting platform for scopes and other compatible optics.
Compared with our full-length Heavy Duty bases, the Hunter Series uses a shorter front section and chamfered edges. The reduced front overhang helps provide additional clearance around large objective lenses, while the beveled profile helps prevent the rail from catching on clothing, gun cases, slings, brush, and other gear.
The rail receives a Black Type III Hardcoat Anodized finish for a durable exterior surface suited to field use.
This version has 0 MOA of built-in elevation, making it a straightforward choice for hunting and general-purpose shooting where additional elevation cant is not required.

The Hunter Series was developed to bridge the gap between our Standard Duty and Heavy Duty Picatinny rails.
It retains the 7075-T6 aluminum construction of our Heavy Duty series, but uses a more streamlined profile designed around the needs of a hunting rifle.

7075-T6 Aluminum: Uses the same high-strength aluminum alloy found in our Heavy Duty rails.
Shorter Front Profile: Reduces unnecessary overhang and provides additional clearance around larger objective lenses.

7075-T6 Aluminum Construction
The Hunter Series rail is machined from solid 7075-T6 aluminum.
7075-T6 provides greater strength than the 6061 aluminum used in EGW Standard Duty rails while maintaining the low weight that makes aluminum desirable for a hunting rifle.
For hunters who want a strong one-piece mounting platform without moving to a heavier steel rail, the Hunter Series provides an excellent middle ground.
Shorter, Cleaner Hunting Profile
Traditional full-length tactical rails can extend farther forward than necessary for many hunting scopes.
The Hunter Series shortens the front portion of the rail while retaining the Picatinny slots needed for normal scope ring positioning.
This reduced front profile can also provide additional room beneath scopes with larger objective bells, helping shooters mount the optic lower when the scope and rifle configuration allow it.
Chamfered Edges for Field Use
One of the defining features of EGW's Hunter Series is the use of chamfered and beveled edges.
Rather than leaving the rail with the squared-off profile associated with a traditional tactical base, the Hunter Series removes unnecessary sharp corners to create a cleaner shape.
That makes the rail less prone to snagging when moving the rifle in and out of a soft case, scabbard, sling, pack, or through brush.
Black Type III Hardcoat Anodized
After machining, the rail receives a Black Type III Hardcoat Anodized finish.
The hardcoat process increases surface hardness and provides a durable matte-black exterior suitable for a rifle that will see regular field use.
Why Choose 0 MOA?
A 0 MOA rail does not add elevation cant to the optic mounting surface.
For typical hunting distances and general-purpose shooting, a 0 MOA rail allows the scope to remain closer to the center of its available adjustment range when establishing a conventional zero.
Shooters who intend to dial substantial elevation for longer-range shooting may prefer the corresponding 20 MOA Hunter Series rail.
0 MOA VS. 20 MOA
0 MOA: Neutral mounting surface. A straightforward choice for most hunting and general-purpose setups.
20 MOA: Adds forward cant to preserve more of the scope's upward adjustment for longer-range dialing.
One-Piece Picatinny Mounting Platform

Installation & Fitment
Before ordering, confirm that your rifle is a standard Howa 1500 Short Action or Weatherby Vanguard Short Action.
The receiver's center hole spread should measure approximately 3.886".
Clean the receiver and mounting hardware before installation and verify that the rail sits completely flush against the receiver before tightening the screws.
EGW recommends tightening the mounting screws to 20 in-lbs with a small amount of blue threadlocker.
Minor fitment may be required due to manufacturing tolerances.
