A reflex sight projects an illuminated reticle onto a lens, allowing for rapid, intuitive target acquisition with both eyes open. Unlike iron sights, the dot only needs to be placed on the target, eliminating the need to align a front and rear post. This makes them faster, more accurate (especially at distance), and easier to use in all lighting conditions.
You'll see sights described as having "open" or "closed" emitters. An open emitter (like a Holosun 507C) has an exposed LED projector. They are lightweight and offer an unobstructed field of view. A closed emitter (like a Holosun 509T or EPS) completely encases the LED projector in a sealed housing, protecting it from rain, dust, and debris. Closed emitters are incredibly durable, making them a top choice for duty or hard-use applications.
The "best" choice depends on your pistol and intended use. For full-size duty or competition guns, popular choices from our lineup include the Holosun 507C and the larger Vortex Defender ST & XL models. For compact, concealed carry pistols, the smaller Holosun 507K, EPS Carry, Viridian RFX series, and the micro Vortex Defender CCW are all excellent options due to their slim profiles.
MOA stands for "Minute of Angle" and it measures the size of the illuminated dot. A 1 MOA dot covers 1 inch at 100 yards. A larger dot, like 6 MOA, is faster to pick up for close-range shooting. A smaller dot, like 2 MOA, is more precise and better for longer-distance shots. The most popular all-around size is typically between 2 and 4 MOA.
It depends. If your slide is "optics-ready," it has a pre-milled cut. You'll just need the correct adapter plate from our Pistol Mounts category to match your specific optic. If your slide is a standard "iron sights only" slide, you can use one of our innovative dovetail mounts, which replaces your rear sight with a mounting base.
