Vortex Venom, Viper & Docter Footprint Compatibility Guide

The Docter footprint, also called the Docter/Noblex pattern, is used by several popular open-emitter red dots. The optic name alone is not always enough to determine compatibility, especially with newer products such as the Vortex Venom Enclosed. Use the lists below as a starting point and verify your exact optic on the product page before ordering.

Compatible Docter-pattern optics

  • Vortex: Venom (open emitter) and Viper
  • Burris: FastFire 2, FastFire 3 and FastFire 4
  • Docter: Docter II, III, C and QuickSight models
  • Noblex: Compatible Noblex Sight models
  • Primary Arms: SLx RS-10
  • Sightmark: Select Mini Shot models
  • Other brands: Select ADE and Vector Optics models specifically listed on the product page

Compatibility can vary by individual optic model. The compatibility list on the mount's product page controls.

How to Choose the Correct Docter Footprint Mount

1

Choose your firearm

Match the manufacturer, model and slide configuration shown in the product title and description.

2

Identify the mounting system

Determine whether your pistol uses a rear-sight dovetail mount or a plate made for a factory optic-ready slide.

3

Verify the exact optic

Confirm that the complete optic model is included in the individual mount's compatibility list.

Built for a Precise, Secure Fit

EGW optic mounts are precision machined in Quakertown, Pennsylvania. Most plates in this category are manufactured from durable 7075 aluminum unless the individual product page states otherwise.

  • Machined for the specified firearm and optic interface
  • Hardcoat anodized on applicable aluminum models
  • Designed to provide a solid mounting surface without unnecessary bulk
  • Supported by EGW's lifetime service commitment

Rear-sight dovetail mounts are press-fit parts. Minor fitting may be required, and a proper sight pusher is recommended. Always follow the instructions and hardware information supplied with the specific mount.

Docter Footprint Mount FAQs

Does the Vortex Venom fit a Docter mount?

The Vortex Venom (open emitter) uses the Docter footprint. The Vortex Venom Enclosed uses a different mounting pattern and should be matched with the appropriate RMSc/DeltaPoint Pro category plate when listed.

Do Holosun red dots fit this footprint?

The common Holosun C Series, K Series and EPS optics do not use the Docter footprint. Holosun 407C/507C models use the RMR category. The 407K, 507K, EPS and EPS Carry use compatible EGW RMSc/DeltaPoint Pro plates.

Are Docter and RMSc footprints interchangeable?

No. Their mounting dimensions and recoil-lug arrangements differ. Select the category that matches the exact optic and confirm compatibility on the product page.

Will a dovetail mount require slide milling?

A compatible dovetail mount replaces the rear sight and normally does not require permanent optic milling. Because dovetails can vary, minor fitting may be required.

Does every mount include the same screws?

No. Hardware can vary according to the firearm, mounting system and optic. Check the individual product page for included hardware and installation information.

How do I confirm my Vortex model?

Look for the complete model name on the optic or original packaging. “Vortex Venom” and “Vortex Venom Enclosed” should not be treated as the same footprint.
